An atmosphere of silence permeates the monastic life but the Sisters are always free to speak whenever necessary in a brief manner and a soft tone.

Set Apart
As a branch of the Franciscan family tree (St. Clare was encouraged and supported by St. Francis of Assisi in her creation of the Poor Clare style of life), we lack the seriousness that characterizes the monastic style of books and movies. Yet we are passionately interested in the needs of city and state and nation and world, as well as all that deeply concerns the Catholic Church locally and universally. We are not well known even after 65 years in the city of Memphis. It is mostly through word of mouth passed from one benefactor to another that people learn of our existence and our mission in the church to assist all those in need through our life of prayer.
